Why Freebies?!

Why Freebies?!

You might think that that's a funy title for a blog post on a crafting inspiration blog.  But stick with me and you might like the information that's included in this blog post.

I'm sure if you think about it you already know the answers in any case.

Why would any business give something away for nothing?  It's basically all the same answer - they hope you'll like it enough to come back and buy something.

So, thinking about the designer at Dragons Lair Designs - why would she give freebies?  (And lately there have been a lot of freebies.)

  • Free mini-kit or quick page from a specific collection, such as a newly launched collection - she obviously hopes you like it enough to come back and buy the whole collection - and why wouldn't you, because they are lovely collections to work with, with lots of posibilities, as the creations of the DT show.
  • Free anything from the online store, in the DLD Fan Group, etc. - she hopes you will like the quality and designs to come to the store to buy something else.

And I have to say that I liked the digital downloads from Dragons Lair Designs so much that I'd bought lots of different ones way before I joined the Design Team.

What should you do if you think a friend would like a freebie you've been to collect
  - give them the link to go and collect their own.
(Never give anybody a copy of something you have received free in this way, You are only being given it free for your own use, not free to hand out to others - the only person who has the right to decide who has copies of their work and under what terms is the copyright owner.  Even if you've paid for a digital download you have usually only paid for a licence to use it yourself, so no giving away those for free to friends either.)

I've been quite busy lately making different things with freebies from Dragons Lair Designs land.  And I haven't even used all of what's available.
Most have been blogged on my own blog, but not all have been put up on this DLD Inspiration Blog, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to show you some.
To save on wareing my fingers out typing I'll just give you a link to the location of the freebie and the location of the blog post that details of my creation can be found on - if I've already made something.

Freebie with the Sunday Showcase - 10th April
I made this "Quick Scrapbook Layout – Double"

Freebie with the Sunday Showcase - 3rd April
I made this "A Butterfly Card"

Freebie with Artistic Expressions - New Digital Download Collection Launch At Dragons Lair Designs
I've not made anything with this freebie yet so here's an image of what you get.

You need to be a group member to get this one, but just ask to join.

Freebie with Sunday Showcase - 27th March
I made a "Mae’n Fyw! – He Lives!" Easter Layout

Freebie Floral Frame given to members of the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group to colour and create as part of the April group colouring challenge.  Again, you need to be a member to get given the digi-stamp, but it's easy to join.
I made a "Music Themed Easel Card" using the freebie frame and other DLD digi-stamps.

Freebie with Sunday Showcase - 20th March
Here's my "Spring Is In The Air" creation made using this freebie.

Are these the only freebies available? - No!
I did say at the begining that there were a lot of DLD freebies released lately, didn't I!

So what are you waiting for.  Why not take this opportunity to use some Dragons Lair Designs items yourself.  And then come back to the store to see what else you can find.  There are often discounts on items to look out for as well.

You might also like to head over to our DLD Challenge Blog - here - > http://stampingwithdragon.blogspot.co.uk/ - as we are running an "Anything Goes" challenge this month.

Hope you have found this post of interest.  Remember, keep your eyes out for even more freebies coming soon.  And even more fantastic collections to buy over in the Dragons Lair Designs online store.

More From the Elves Collection

I lost my very dear daddy in January unexpectedly and I miss him beyond words.  I wanted to pay tribute to this wonderful man and this collection named "Elves"  has given me such peace and calm when working with it.  I wanted to add some photos but my computer refused to do it after at least 10 restarts so I took the hint and went with what I had already and maybe that was what I needed to do.  Here is my page to add to my escape scrapbook dedicated to my daddy.

He always thought everything I did was fabulous even my worst :) and I think that says it all about being Daddy's girl, the only child, loved so very much and encouraged at every step in my life.  I know he is watching and saying good job as he always did.

Do try and join us in our challenge this month, a fun Bingo grid so lots to choose from and show us your work on our Fan Page!  We love seeing your work too and we have some awesome ways to win points towards use in the store, too!  And help us welcome Susan as our Fan Page coordinator and expect great things to come with this talented lady!  I am listing all our sites below and places to find Janette's fabulous work in one easy spot!  Hope to see you soon!

Elves Inspiration from Susan R

Hi Susan R here!

This is another post featuring the latest collection at

ELVES

I was fortunate enough to have a mini kit to play with
- and I showed you some Elvish tags to whet your appetite at the beginning of the month...

and my calendar...

Today I am showing you some more makes made with elements from this collection.

First, using two of the papers, I have a mason jar.
The parts for this were die cut using a Sizzix die - Canning Jars 3D, assembled with a ribbon attached.

This treat box is suitable for a few sweets...

Next I made a choice of gift tags to attach to the mason jar - the first is similar to the ones above - just the image cut out and distressed around the edges with 'tea dye'.

The second uses this element from Elves which was a freebie on the blog:

The pieces were cut out, distressed with tea dye, layered up with silicon glue, punched and a ribbon added - this ribbon is one of several I upcycled from Christmas crackers!

I attached it to the Mason Jar with a small peg.

The third is a kite card - find instructions here. I have used several paper designs, two of them printed back to back.

Hope you like my makes!!

Do take a look at Dragons Lair Designs for 'Elves' and all the other lovely designs!

Happy Crafting!

New Elves Collection Scrapbook Start

I love elves, fairies, anything that is a part of fantasy to escape to and this collection is fabulous in simulating a wonderful place to escape to and stay among the elves!  I am starting a small scrapbook with this collection and hope to share it with you this month.  Here is my first page and I have used some digital elements with the printed pieces.  These can be found in the store under the "Elves Collection" HERE!

The colors are so lovely and the frame just fit the digital image of a fairy house!  I used UTEE on the frame to make it pop and of course added the embossed word "Believe" cause if you don't what is the point?  I also used a bit of UTEE on the elf's flower she is holding.  I could really go crazy with the stuff but the elements really need nothing to add to their absolute perfectness!

Join us on our Fan Page and show us your makes with this fabulous kit found in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and play along with our March Challenge using our Bingo grid to have some more fun!  To make it easy all of our links are below so click and enjoy!

Our Design Team members have had lots of fun making different creations from elements from the "Elves Collection" that launched in the Dragons Lair Designs store on the 1st March.

With several items shown online by various Design Team members since our post on the launch day, we thought that we'd collect some of them together to show you today.  We hope they show you some of the versatility of the collection and let you see some creations you have missed seeing.

Gwyneth
I've been cardmaking for my Inspiration post on this blog at the begining of the month. You can find more details - here - but here are one photo each of them.

Lynne
Lynne's been papercrafting and made some interesting and different things to inspire you.
She's used one of the backgrounds printed on paper to decorated this.

Diane
The first of Diane's card is on a Triptich theme, which she's made by printing the bookmarks at a smaller size.

Another lovely card by Diane, this time incorporating a tag that's in the collection.

Keep an eye out for even more creations from the Elves Collection made by our very creative Design Team members.

Inspiration by Gwyneth - March 2016 - Elves

Good Morning Everybody!

Hi everybody.

For our March posts every Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog Design Team member will be working with the wonderful new collection "Elves" that was launched in the Dragons Lair Designs Store Yesterday.

This collection has very much a vintage feel to it. Although the elves are great for some occasions, they may not go with everything you want to do - but the beauty of the collection is that it contains backgrounds and elements that don't show the elves as well (Have a look at the digital-scrapbook layout I did for the collection launch to see a creation that doesn't show the Elves).  So multiple styles of items can be made with different looks from this one collection.

As my first piece with the collection didn't use the elements that showed the Elves I decided that I needed to use them for this Inspiration Blog post.  So I decided to make a card.

In fact, I got a bit carried away and made 3 different cards. Unfortunately the photograph for one of them isn't good - despite taking more than once - but it shows you an idea for a layout.

These are what I used:

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:
Items from the "Elves" collection available - here - in the store.
Launch day freebie from this blog -> Here!

Consumables:
Black 7" square card; White 7" square card; A4 sheet of 300gsm cardstock; Sheet of Adorable Scoreable cardstock in a toneing colour.  Roller glue tape pen; 1mm deep double sided foam tape; Foiling glue; Gold touch senseitive foil; Zig Glue Pen; Glue Gel; Butterfly Charm; Burnt Sienna ProMarker;
Equipment:
Scissors; Hougie Board

Cards & Method:
I started by printing out various backgrounds and elements from the collection and then cutting them out.

For this 1st card I took one elves topper and two backgrounds from the collection and cut them to size.  The topper was stuck to a piece of Adorable Scoreable cardstock and cut to leave a small margin. The background panels were distressed around the edges with a scissors edge.
I dabbed some foil glue in various places on the base card and on the panels and applied foil.  I then used my roller glue tape pen to attach the backgrounds and foam tape to attach the matted topper.

 Angled view of card.

After cutting out a background to fit my base card I started off by attaching this.  Then I added the torn edge and ribbon element.  I decided to only use the base image and two layers of the pyramid topper and I lightly went around these two layers with my scissors edge to roughen them up a bit so that they would stand out a bit on the card.  The bottom layer was attached using a roller glue tape pen and the two layers using 1mm deep foam tape.  I then used a Zig glue pen to add dots in various places on the paper ribbon and to write Penblwydd Hapus (which is Welsh for Happy Birthday) to the bottom of the card.  Onto these glued areas I pressed a sheet of touch sensitve foil.  It actually turned out smoother than I wanted so I then scratched the foiled area to distress it a bit, which I felt was more in keeping with the look of the image and backgrounds.

For this last card, in the style of a "screen" that opens out and stands in a zigzag fashion, was made using three of the bookmarks on the bookmark sheet.
These were again stuck to a sheet of Adorable Scoreable and trimmed to leave a very small margin.
Taking the width of these matted bookmarks into account I used my Hougie Board to score a sheet of white cardstock, trimmed the extra off and folded to make my screen card.  I also cut a smaller panel from the Adorable Scoreable, but turning it back to front, to make a panel where the greeting can be written.  Once I had stuck all the matted panels onto the base card using my roller glue tape pen I used the ProMarker to go around adding faux stitching.
I finished off by colouring over the butterfly charm using the same ProMarker, because it wass too silver looking for this card, and then stuck it to the front of the card using glue gel.

The closed card.
A couple of slightly different angles of the opened out card.
