New Elves Collection Scrapbook Start

I love elves, fairies, anything that is a part of fantasy to escape to and this collection is fabulous in simulating a wonderful place to escape to and stay among the elves!  I am starting a small scrapbook with this collection and hope to share it with you this month.  Here is my first page and I have used some digital elements with the printed pieces.  These can be found in the store under the "Elves Collection" HERE!

The colors are so lovely and the frame just fit the digital image of a fairy house!  I used UTEE on the frame to make it pop and of course added the embossed word "Believe" cause if you don't what is the point?  I also used a bit of UTEE on the elf's flower she is holding.  I could really go crazy with the stuff but the elements really need nothing to add to their absolute perfectness!

Join us on our Fan Page and show us your makes with this fabulous kit found in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and play along with our March Challenge using our Bingo grid to have some more fun!  To make it easy all of our links are below so click and enjoy!

Inspiration by Gwyneth - March 2016 - Elves

Good Morning Everybody!

Hi everybody.

For our March posts every Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog Design Team member will be working with the wonderful new collection "Elves" that was launched in the Dragons Lair Designs Store Yesterday.

This collection has very much a vintage feel to it. Although the elves are great for some occasions, they may not go with everything you want to do - but the beauty of the collection is that it contains backgrounds and elements that don't show the elves as well (Have a look at the digital-scrapbook layout I did for the collection launch to see a creation that doesn't show the Elves).  So multiple styles of items can be made with different looks from this one collection.

As my first piece with the collection didn't use the elements that showed the Elves I decided that I needed to use them for this Inspiration Blog post.  So I decided to make a card.

In fact, I got a bit carried away and made 3 different cards. Unfortunately the photograph for one of them isn't good - despite taking more than once - but it shows you an idea for a layout.

These are what I used:

Stamping Dragon Designs Item:
Items from the "Elves" collection available - here - in the store.
Launch day freebie from this blog -> Here!

Consumables:
Black 7" square card; White 7" square card; A4 sheet of 300gsm cardstock; Sheet of Adorable Scoreable cardstock in a toneing colour.  Roller glue tape pen; 1mm deep double sided foam tape; Foiling glue; Gold touch senseitive foil; Zig Glue Pen; Glue Gel; Butterfly Charm; Burnt Sienna ProMarker;
Equipment:
Scissors; Hougie Board

Cards & Method:
I started by printing out various backgrounds and elements from the collection and then cutting them out.

For this 1st card I took one elves topper and two backgrounds from the collection and cut them to size.  The topper was stuck to a piece of Adorable Scoreable cardstock and cut to leave a small margin. The background panels were distressed around the edges with a scissors edge.
I dabbed some foil glue in various places on the base card and on the panels and applied foil.  I then used my roller glue tape pen to attach the backgrounds and foam tape to attach the matted topper.

 Angled view of card.

After cutting out a background to fit my base card I started off by attaching this.  Then I added the torn edge and ribbon element.  I decided to only use the base image and two layers of the pyramid topper and I lightly went around these two layers with my scissors edge to roughen them up a bit so that they would stand out a bit on the card.  The bottom layer was attached using a roller glue tape pen and the two layers using 1mm deep foam tape.  I then used a Zig glue pen to add dots in various places on the paper ribbon and to write Penblwydd Hapus (which is Welsh for Happy Birthday) to the bottom of the card.  Onto these glued areas I pressed a sheet of touch sensitve foil.  It actually turned out smoother than I wanted so I then scratched the foiled area to distress it a bit, which I felt was more in keeping with the look of the image and backgrounds.

For this last card, in the style of a "screen" that opens out and stands in a zigzag fashion, was made using three of the bookmarks on the bookmark sheet.
These were again stuck to a sheet of Adorable Scoreable and trimmed to leave a very small margin.
Taking the width of these matted bookmarks into account I used my Hougie Board to score a sheet of white cardstock, trimmed the extra off and folded to make my screen card.  I also cut a smaller panel from the Adorable Scoreable, but turning it back to front, to make a panel where the greeting can be written.  Once I had stuck all the matted panels onto the base card using my roller glue tape pen I used the ProMarker to go around adding faux stitching.
I finished off by colouring over the butterfly charm using the same ProMarker, because it wass too silver looking for this card, and then stuck it to the front of the card using glue gel.

The closed card.
A couple of slightly different angles of the opened out card.

Inspiration by Gwyneth - January - A Look Back

Hi Everybody!

I know it's usual to do a "Look Back" at the end of the year, but I thought I'd do a bit of a look back at how I got here, crafting and writing regularly for this blog, at the begining of this year.

I first came across the work of Janette Padley on the website craftsUprint.  Having been doing a variety of crafting most of my life I joined craftsUprint as a registered cardmaker way back in 2010.  But it wasn't until October 2012 that I made my first couple of cards using Janette's work.

These are the first two cards I ever made using two of Janette's wonderful digi-stamps of fun dragons -

Jiggy Dragon at the Beach Stamp - available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and on cUp.

Rupert says Hello - available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and on cUp.

Most of my early creations made using items from Dragons Lair Designs (DLD) were made using digi stamps bought via cUp, but I did then venture into using other digital downloads created by Janette as time went on.

After I'd done the first few creations using DLD items I was introduced to the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook and asked whether I'd like to join.  Having found out a bit about the group I jumped at the chance and it wasn't long before I was joining in the chat and challenges on offer there, and posting pictures of my creations made using DLD items.

When Fan Group members were asked if anybody would like to do a Guest post on this Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog I put my name forward and was given a date some months ahead.

Then, out of the blue, before my Guest post had even gone live, I was offered the chance to be a permanent member of the DT.  With my health being up and down, and no saying when I would or wouldn't be able to do postings, I agreed to take the DT member position on the understanding that the then DT leader was aware that I might be missing out on posts and other DT member activities occasionally.

So, I was in the strange position of my 1st post as a DT member on this Inspiration Blog (19-09-2013) actually appearing before my Guest post (16-11-2013).

This was my 1st creation to be blogged on this DLD Inspiration Blog -

Made using a digi-stamp of a Giraffe - available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and on cUp.

I also joined the Design Team for the DLD Challenge Blog with my 1st creation for that team going live in April 2014.

Over time the names of the blogs and the name of Janette's online store have changed, I've even been made the Design Team Leader for this DLD Inspiration Blog, but the quality of the digital downloads available is still the same high quality, and the variety just grows as Janette adds new items.

So, looking forward to what's going on in 2016 - well, there's a new collection coming out 1st February so you'll see lots of inspiration posts appearing in this blog showcasing some things that can be done with that.  Also, after having a break for January, there will be a new challenge starting on the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog the 1st Friday of February as well.  And for an even more regular fix of all things Dragons Lair then please do join us in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.

Guest Design Team Post - Nanette

Good Morning Everybody!

Nanette Bourdeu has just joined our Design Team, but we thought we'd allow her to settle in gently for this month with a short Guest DT posting to introduce herself and make a creation with her choice of item from the Dragons Lair Designs store.

This is what Nanette has to say about herself:

I have 2 adult children whom I adore and live for! I have been crafting since at least age 8 at my mom's knee at the sewing machine. Then in her ceramic shop as an adult and woodworking with my dad. I have only been paper crafting seriously for almost a year but feel in love with it! I love taking stuff most folks throw out and breathing new life into it.

For her project for this post Nanette requested the "Steampunk Manquin" digi-stamp (which you can find - Here! - in the store) and had fun creating and decorating a holder for sewing tools and patterns.

A really great creation I'm sure you'll agree, and a perfect choice of digi-stamp from the store to compliment the theme of her creation.  This is a great example of using her new hobby of papercrafting in a way that shows off her crafting roots at the sewing machine.

Nanette has just started a new blog "Deep into the Darkness Peering", which you can find by clicking - Here! so please do pop over there to see more of her work.

(She's been busy on another Dragons Lair Design project lately as well - a flag - onto which she's sewn the free digi-stamp that members of the "Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group" are working with for this month's group challenge - please come and join us if you want to play along.)

Keep an eye out for more of Nanette's work over the coming months on this blog as she jumps into the Design Team to inspire everybody with more makes using Dragons Lair Designs digital downloads.
