Susan R's retrospect

Hi...Susan R here!

Before we start with all the exciting new designs of 2016
I thought I would just look back...

Last year I made a Dragons Lair calendar and added a new page each month:

Each page features papers and Images from Dragons Lair Designs  - you will find more details on my own blog

This year I have decided to make another calendar but in a different style: 6 rectangular white card blanks stuck together in a star shape.

This is the first page:

I used black card to mat the various elements from Joi Arts

and printed the freebie  Ballroom silhouette directly onto the background paper.

Do watch out for February!

Happy Crafting!

Inspiration by Gwyneth - January - A Look Back

Hi Everybody!

I know it's usual to do a "Look Back" at the end of the year, but I thought I'd do a bit of a look back at how I got here, crafting and writing regularly for this blog, at the begining of this year.

I first came across the work of Janette Padley on the website craftsUprint.  Having been doing a variety of crafting most of my life I joined craftsUprint as a registered cardmaker way back in 2010.  But it wasn't until October 2012 that I made my first couple of cards using Janette's work.

These are the first two cards I ever made using two of Janette's wonderful digi-stamps of fun dragons -

Jiggy Dragon at the Beach Stamp - available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and on cUp.

Rupert says Hello - available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and on cUp.

Most of my early creations made using items from Dragons Lair Designs (DLD) were made using digi stamps bought via cUp, but I did then venture into using other digital downloads created by Janette as time went on.

After I'd done the first few creations using DLD items I was introduced to the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook and asked whether I'd like to join.  Having found out a bit about the group I jumped at the chance and it wasn't long before I was joining in the chat and challenges on offer there, and posting pictures of my creations made using DLD items.

When Fan Group members were asked if anybody would like to do a Guest post on this Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog I put my name forward and was given a date some months ahead.

Then, out of the blue, before my Guest post had even gone live, I was offered the chance to be a permanent member of the DT.  With my health being up and down, and no saying when I would or wouldn't be able to do postings, I agreed to take the DT member position on the understanding that the then DT leader was aware that I might be missing out on posts and other DT member activities occasionally.

So, I was in the strange position of my 1st post as a DT member on this Inspiration Blog (19-09-2013) actually appearing before my Guest post (16-11-2013).

This was my 1st creation to be blogged on this DLD Inspiration Blog -

Made using a digi-stamp of a Giraffe - available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store and on cUp.

I also joined the Design Team for the DLD Challenge Blog with my 1st creation for that team going live in April 2014.

Over time the names of the blogs and the name of Janette's online store have changed, I've even been made the Design Team Leader for this DLD Inspiration Blog, but the quality of the digital downloads available is still the same high quality, and the variety just grows as Janette adds new items.

So, looking forward to what's going on in 2016 - well, there's a new collection coming out 1st February so you'll see lots of inspiration posts appearing in this blog showcasing some things that can be done with that.  Also, after having a break for January, there will be a new challenge starting on the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog the 1st Friday of February as well.  And for an even more regular fix of all things Dragons Lair then please do join us in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group.

-oOo-
And that is it from me for today.
Please keep coming back regularly to look at new posts as, over the next few weeks, you'll find various "Inspiration by ..." posts appear on this "Dragons Lair Designs Inspiraiton Blog", as well as colouring tutorials and other posts by different Design Team members.  I'll be back with more posts over the coming months as well, so keep an eye out for those.

Design Team Call

Dragons Lair Designs is looking to add new members to our design teams for 2016.

Are You Interested In Joining Us?

Who are we looking for?
Crafting Bloggers
  • Crafters! - People who love paper crafting, scrapbooking, card making, DIY altered art, and home decor and party throwing - any craft where digital downloads of the type available in the Dragons Lair Designs Store (http://dragonslairdesigns.com/shop/) can be used.
  • Crafters of any level of crafting ability can apply.  We are looking for a cross section of crafting ability and styles.
  • Bloggers! - People who already have an active blog where they upload pictures and information about their crafting, or those who want to get started on craft blogging and are willing to put in the time to create and learn.

What are the details/requirements?
The basic requirements are:
  • DT members will receive Dragons Lair Designs digital downloads to create their creations with each month, so must have access to a colour printer.
  • DT members will need to take good quality photographs of their creations, so must have access to a camera, and the means to watermark and upload their photos.
  • DT members are responsible for uploading and creating their own posts on this Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog (http://stampingdragondesigns.blogspot.co.uk/) in addition to blogging the same creation on their personal blog.
  • DT members can also choose to be members of our sister blog, the Dragons Lair Designs Challenge Blog (http://stampingwithdragon.blogspot.ie/) and will then be responsible for providing one photo of a challenge inspiration piece each month on the theme of that month's challenge, which will go into the challenge post, as well as blogging that inspiration piece on their own blog.
  • DT members are also occasionally offered the opportunity to participate in special projects when they'll receive extra digital items to work with.
  • DT members are ultimately there to promote and showcase Dragons Lair Designs so some work beyond the creating, photographing and blogging of creations is required - making sure that the creations are seen by uploading links to the DLD blog and your own blog in an assortment of suitable groups/FB/etc, and being seen in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook at least a couple of times a week.

What do you need to do to apply?
Send us your details
  • E-mail your application to dtdragonslairdesigns@gmail.com.
  • Put "Design Team Application" in the subject line.
  • Include a selection of your best work, a link to your blog, a short bio and why you would like to join us.

Any questions!
  • E-mail any questions you have to the same (dtdragonslairdesigns@gmail.com) E-mail address and somebody will get back to you, hopefully within a couple of days.
What happens then?
  • Once we receive applications our Design Team Leaders and our Designer will look at them all to decide on who will be invited to join our teams. Once a decision has been made we will contact applicants, and successful applicants will be provided with more detailed information before joining us.
Closing date?
  • Not yet confirmed, but won't be before the end of January 2016, to give those interested the chance to select the work they want to submit and compile an E-mail to send us.
  • Once a closing date is decided we will add the information here.

January Inspiration from Susan R

Hi there! Susan R here...
I am delighted to announce that I have been invited to join the
 Dragons Lair Inspiration team!!

And this is my first post!!

In the Dragons Lair Facebook Group

Lots of elements in beautiful wintry blues!!

I made a matted and layered card using elements from this...

First I printed out several pieces and cut them out.

I used the frame with Winter Beauty.

I combined the elements with some darker toning card from my stash,
finally adding some gliitter in silver and 'jade sea' to the image.

Happy Crafting!
