Revisiting Sarah's Collection at Dragons Lair Designs

It's Nanette again with a revisit to the fabulous Sarah's Collection kit! This one holds a soft spot in my heart as it was the first kit I created with for the Dragons Lair Inspiration Blog.  The kit contains soft, pastel greens, and a lovely paper with whom I call "Sarah" on it and the kit is just amazingly soft and lovely!  I am very interested in postcards at the moment so of course I was thinking along those lines but couldn't quiet get it to work in my head.  Then I saw an amazing art envelope made by a dear friend and decided to give that a try!  I used 2 5x7 copies of the background paper and glued together and unstuck a small envelope for my template.  It took some adjusting and piecing but it worked rather well.  I stamped a postage stamp on the corner and cut out a fabulous stamp I received from another lovely friend from Finland and glued by the stamped one.  I took my black fine tip pen and tried to make the stamped lines from the postmarked stamp go across my stamped image.  Then I fussy cut "Sarah" out and glued onto the front and added some distress markers around the edge of her to soften the edges and added some green Perfect Pearls powders for a nice shimmer.  On the back I stamped another stamp from the same kit the small stamp came from and that was it!

Hope this inspires you to revisit some favorites of yours and find some new images for the papers in our Store!

Summer Birthday at Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog

As you know by now, we are revisiting some awesome summer fun kits from the Dragons Lair Designs Store.  My awesome son has a summer birthday!  So after finding my digital stamp "Summer Fun" because I love the beach so much, I needed an idea for how to use it.  I colored it up with some Bic Markits and added some sand colored seed beads for some dimensional "sand".  Then some Glossy Accents on the sun (it had to shine!) and the coconuts and water drops and the need for a place to use it!  By this time I had begun thinking of my son's upcoming birthday and my idea was right in front of me.  A goodie bag from a plain brown paper bag, even though I would not be using them for my son's birthday as he is an adult now ( will always be my baby, however!) but so many of these had been made over the years for him and my daughter!

My label maker made a cute sentiment stuck on some bright yellow paper from the Dragons Lair Designs Store!

A close up of my seed bead "sand".

Hope you can take this idea and go look in the store for a digital stamp that fits your summer party theme and can gather the kids to help color them up and assemble the goodies inside!
Enjoy the rest of your summer and the time you have with the little ones and teens!  Coloring is a universal fun thing to do, so get out of the heat, sit on the floor, and color up some fabulous fun!

Inspiration by Gwyneth - July - Summer Fun Season

Good Morning Everybody!

Hi everybody.

I'm back again with a digital scrapbook layout.

July and August have been declared as our "Summer Fun Season" across this Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog and our Facebook Fan Group.  And where better to have some fun this summer than out in the garden, either chilling or growing.

I decided to start off with a simple scrapbook layout of some flowers from our garden from years past.  Nothing very complicated, just a quick digital layout that took less than 15 minutes to put together, because I know that summer is a busy season, especially for those with children and/or gardens to take care of, and therefore there's less time to craft.  With digital scrapbooking you can put together layouts quickly and, although I've not done so on this layout, journal relevant information about the day, or holiday, or whatever, and keep a record at the time in just a few minutes.  Then, if you want, the layouts can be printed out and further decorated when time permits, to create a hybrid layout. Or even used as a guide to creating a standard scrapbook page at some time in the future.

Dragons Lair Designs has a vast range of kits for scrapbooking, from mini kits to large collections, so you are likely to find something in the right colour scheme to go with your photos, whatever is in them.

I simply chose some backgrounds and a couple of elements from my chosen kit, together with a double frame element and took them, together with my chosen photos, into My Craft Studio.  One of the double frames was turned through 90 degrees and then I just played around with the layout before saving.

These are what I used:

And that is it from me for today.

July Means Summer Fun at Dragons Lair Designs!

Hi all! It's Nanette here with some fun!  This summer we are taking the time to revisit some fun images and fun kits to play with for our makes!  I saw the popcorn image and it screamed "Summer!" and having made some jewelry last month, the two ideas merged again!  Then I had some lovely papers from the "Rainbow Bundle" kit from the Dragons Lair Designs Store and I found a pin wheel pattern, oh how I loved them as a child and still do! :)  So those two items merged into 2 lovely pinwheels!  I have made them on short sticks (colored pencils for picture purpose) but I absolutely love them! I used the patterned side of the paper and colored the back of the paper with a red marker.  I could have back the patterned paper with a lovely red piece from the collection but it would have been too thick to manipulate the pinwheels to make them.

Here are my pinwheels!  And my popcorn earrings hanging on the jar!

The earrings..
I colored the image full sized with Bic MarkIts.  Then I shrunk the image down on my printer but will do another pair from Photoshop in my initials in red in the circles. I then pressed them into embossing ink pad and used UTEE to cover them, then I shook it off and used my heat gun to melt it into the awesome shiny finish.  I only did this once because one coat leaves a slightly bubbled appearance and for the popcorn it was perfect.  Then made a big jump ring and hooked into earring finding!
Now it is you time to go look at the store (links below!) and shop for some things so that you can play with your children by making pinwheels and playing!  And while you are at it, if you have older kids make a pair of earrings with your daughter!  Have fun!!
Happy Crafting!

Summer Fun Season At Dragons Lair Designs

Hi everybody!

For July and August we are going to have a "Summer Fun Season" here at Dragons Lair Designs Inspiration Blog.

We are going to let our Design Team members choose their own items from the Dragons Lair Designs Store to work with to make whatever they think is suitable for the theme of "Summer Fun".

I'm looking forward to seeing what they think of as Summer Fun and what creations they make.

  • Is their idea of Summer Fun being able to lock themselves in their craft room and getting messy?
  • Will it be scrapbook pages of holidays or trips out and about?
  • Will they go for a "wet day" project of colouring in with younger members of the family?
  • Will it be mixed media items including bits picked up from the beach?
  • Will they prefer to spend their time in their own garden at home - perhaps gardening, or perhaps having BBQs or garden parties having created hand made invites for family and friends?
We'll have to wait and see!  So please do come back regularly during the month to have a look at the new creations made by the Design Team Members.  I'm sure you'll be inspired to craft when looking at their creations.

I've started having a browse around the Dragons Lair Designs store to think of some ideas.  Here are just a few of the digi-stamps that you might find useful in your Summer Fun crafting -

  • What about sending a friend an invite to pop over for a cuppa and a chat using Floral Tea Set

  • Scrapbooking photos taken on a day when everybody had fun cooking, either for a bbq, picnic, or as a "wet day" activity - using Baking Utensils and Baking Day to embelish your layout.

  • Perhaps your idea of summer fun is a day out in a boat, fishing.  If so you might like the digi Fishing Trip.

  • And if you want to just sit back and do nothing then how about Just Chillin.

Got to stop now or the list will go on and on as there's so many digi stamps in the Dragons Lair Designs store to choose from.

I'm going to have a look at the papers and collections next - I think that some of the patterns would be great to make paper bunting to hang out in the garden for a party, and perhaps for children to make paper lanterns to hang as well.

And remember to come join us in the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook as I'm sure there will be some Sumer Fun activities with loyalty points and other prizes to be had throughout the summer.

We'd love to have you join us in our Fan Group and post up some pictures of any creations you make using DLD items - there are even a few items available for free to Fan Group members.
