Colouring for grown ups

Hiya colouring friends,

Colouring seems to be so poplar at the moment. With all these 'Colouring books for grown-ups' everywhere you go. A lot of them titled as 'Relaxing, Calm, Mindfulness, Therapy' etc. But its nothing new to us. We were there a long time ago, weren't we crafters?

I love colouring and find it very relaxing. I'm usually a Promarker user but I thought I'd have a bit of a change for this month and used pencil crayons instead.

I haven't used expensive pencils (but I must admit that I have sent off for some more 'professional' ones that I am still waiting for) to colour this months image so it great for beginners and the more experienced alike to get creative.

Hope you have a relaxing colouring time soon

Until next month

Colour along - Texture and patterns

Today I'll be sharing a quick and easy way it is to add some texture and patterns to your colouring.

This month I will be using the beautiful Hat Lady 2 Stamp from the Simply Soft Collection.

This pattern affect was achieved by first colouring the hat, with Promarkers, then placing a fine nib on the blender pen and drawing the pattern on top of the colour.

Using the fine nib on the blender pen again, you can add texture too, and that's how I achieved the straw hat affect here. I also added some tiny spots to the scarf.

And finally you can use a lighter colour pen on top of a 'darker' colour too . This is how I added the yellow spots to the purple scarf.

There you go. A simple and affective way to add to your colouring.

See you next month

January Colour along - Basic Blending

Basic Blending

The key to blending is knowing any lighter shade will move the darker shade around. So, when blending two colours together, always use the lighter one to blend.

This month I am using the Autumn Leaves digi, available from the shop.

Step 1: Choose three colors that will form a natural blending group, light, medium and dark. I have chosen Apple, Grass and Lush Green Promarkers

Step 2: Colour the whole area to be coloured with the lightest shade (Apple). This saturate the paper, this helps with the blending process
Step 3: Add the medium shade (Grass) to areas to be darkened. Leave some of the lightest shade (Apple), this area will become your highlights.
Step 4: Now add the darkest shade (Lush Green) to the shadowed areas. Make sure to leave some of the medium and light shades.
Step 5: Now we move onto the blending process. Using the medium shade (Grass), flick outwards where the dark and medium shades meet. Do not go over the entire dark shaded area or too far into the medium shaded area
Step 6. Using the same technique, blend the medium shade into the light shade with the light colour (Apple)
Step 7: Repeat steps 5 and 6 as necessary to get a smooth transition from light to dark.
And here's all the leaves coloured in the same way

Here are some more colours I had a little play with for Autumn Leaves

See you next month

Happy colouring

December colour along - Colour combo's - Skintones

Hiya colour buddies,

Hope you had a lovely Christmas. Did Santa bring you any colouring goodies?

I have been asked many times what colour combinations I use for skin. which is not a easy answer to give as there are so many. So when I saw this months digi, Victorian Christmas Collection - Angel Stamp, I thought it was perfect to show a small collection of skintones that can be achieved.

As you can see, I have one left uncoloured and would love to know what your favourite combination is. Leave a comment below and I will choose one and show you the finished result in next months post.

Happy colouring

Have a very happy new year

And I will see you next year :)

Happy crafting

November Colour Along -

Hiya colouring friends,

With the release of the the fantastic and gorgeous Francheska Collection...

With it's beautiful sepia tones, I was inspired to play with some colour combinations to co-ordinate with the collection.

I have done three examples with the colour palette becoming gradually warmer. With the colours fading into white the blender pen is essential.

I would always advise to make yourself a colour chart with all your pens as they are really indispensable when it comes to working out what colours you want to use or even better, colour matching.

For the first image I decided to use:
Shale, Slate, Sandstone, Umber and Ice Grey 1 (plus the blender)

I like to work with the image I am co-ordinating with beside me when I'm colouring.

Below you find step by step photo's on how I coloured the first image

As you can see below just by using different colour combinations you can get a variation of different sepia tones. I will now add this to my colour combinations book so I can use it as a reference in the future.

Well, I'll see you again next month.

See you then
